The Faculty of Chemistry and Earth Sciences teaches and conducts research in the fields of chemistry, geography and earth sciences.

Study

The Faculty of Chemistry and Earth Sciences offers Bachelor and Master training programmes in the subjects of chemistry, geography and earth sciences. The Biochemistry degree programme is offered jointly with the Faculty of Biosciences and the Master's degree programme in Geoarchaeology is offered jointly with the Faculty of Arts.

Doctorate

The doctorate demonstrates the ability to conduct independent scientific research. A doctorate at the Faculty of Chemistry and Earth Sciences is possible in the subjects of Chemistry, Earth Sciences and Geography. Depending on the field of research, it can be completed with the academic degree of Doctor rerum naturalium (Dr. rer. nat.), Doctor der Ingenieurwissenschaften (Dr.-Ing.) or, in the field of Geography, Doctor of Philosophy (Dr. phil.).

Research

In the institutes of the faculty as well as in the university's central scientific facilities associated with the institutes, research is carried out both in the field of basic research and with a focus on application.

Transfer

With its scientific expertise, the university aims to contribute to solving global challenges. Patenting, licensing, initiating entrepreneurial activities as well as spin-offs and collaborations with industrial partners: numerous research results have already been translated into applications.
